At age 13, as an avid gamer and keen reader of the Nintendo Official Magazine, I tasked myself with entering their monthly game design competition with an original design.

Not having the funds or set up for anything more advanced, I spent days on Microsoft Paint meticulously assigning pixels for an idea based around their Super Smash Bros. franchise, tasking myself with coming up with an idea for a marketable and unique entry using hardware that wouldn't be considered powerful enough for a franchise known for (at the time) cutting edge graphics.
It wasn't until 10 years later when Super Mario Maker was released to worldwide acclaim for the Wii U, that I noticed that I had imagined one of it's key features for my early game idea - to allow characters other than Mario to play through vintage Super Mario levels.
